John Henry 'Bonzo' Bonham, drummer of the band of hard rock Led Zeppelin. Till this days is considered one of the best rock drummers in history,as it changed the approach towards the instrument. John created a style with a stuck harder and with fewer embellishments, much further removed from jazz and blues (predominant JohnBonham - These people rock!styles of drummers in rock / pop of the time), revolutionary change the music world, influencing all subsequent generations of batteries rock, including heavy metal.
He was renowned for his power, fast right foot, distinctive sound and "feel" for the groove.

Early Years.

John Henry Bonham was born in Redditch, England, in 1948. He was a natural drummer, he never took any drum lesson. He started to play drums at the age of five, making a drum kit out of containers and coffee tins. His mother Joan gave him a snare drum at the age of ten, and he received a drum kit at the age of fifteen, a Premier Percussion kit.
Career.

Bonham formed his first band, Terry Webb and the Spiders. It was at this time that Bonham decided to devote himself to music as a profession. He joined several bands little succesful bands, such as Blues Crawling King Snakes, where was singer Robert Plant. During this period, Bonham gained reputation as the noisiest drummer throughout England. On one occasion he was assked to leave the Birmingham Studio because he played too strong to be borne by owner who even told him that there would be no future for a drummer like him. Ten years later, the owner of the studies received a note which read "Thanks for the career advice..." being accompanied by a gold record of Led Zeppelin. Along with Robert Plant, Bonham played with some underground bands until Tim Rose formally invited him to be the drummer on tour of his bands.

When Jimmy Page wanted to form a new band folJohnBonham - These people rock!lowing the breakdown of The Yardbirds, as his first option was singer Terry Reid, however Reid was working with Mickie Most. Reid suggested Robert Plant, who suggested Bonham, and John Paul Jones. After seeing Bonham playingfor Tim Rose in Hampstead, London, in July 1968, Page and Peter Grant (representative of the group) were convinced that Bonham was indicated. His drum solo called "Moby Dick", was about 30 minutes and he played without sticks to achieve new sound effects. In tours of Led Zeppelin who came after 1969 expanded its kit, including congas, timbales and symphonic gongs.

The death of Bonham.


John Bonham waspicked up by Led Zeppelin assistant Rex King to attend rehearsals at Bray Studios for the upcoming tour of the UnitedStates, the band's first tour since 1977. During the journey Bonham had asked to stop for breakfast, where he drank fourJohnBonham - These people rock! quadruple vodkas. A halt was called to the rehearsals late in the evening and the band retired to Page's house, The Old Mill House in Clewer, Windsor. After midnight, Bonham fell asleep and was taken to bed. Benji LeFrevre and John Paul Jones found him dead the next morning. Bonham was only 32 years old.

Some interesting things.


  • Bonham was also a collector of antique sports cars and motorcycles, which was on the farm his family called The Old Hyde.
  • Bonham also used the longest and heavy sticks in the market, to which he referred as "trees".
  • In 1974, Bonham appeared in the film Son of Dracula, playing drums in the Count Down's (Harry Nilsson) backing band. This was a film made by Ringo Starr.

I admire Bonham because he surprise me with his power, his love and his ability to play the drums. Also fascinates me his ability to improvise and creativity when it comes to playing drum solos.

Bonzo is tall, grew a beard, sometimes simply moustache. His hair is black and long, and in recitals he used a bandana. He had black eyes, round and elongated face.
